This article provides guidance for diagnosing and resolving common issues with UTM devices connected to the Unify platform.
1. Device Activation
UTM devices can be activated using either of the following methods:
- Magnet Activation
Hold a magnet over the UTM LEDs for 6 seconds to trigger activation. - Sensor Port Activation
Connect the sensor directly to a device port to initiate activation.
2. Common Issues & Resolutions
A. Device Not Communicating a Valid Level
Possible causes:
- Cable is cut or unplugged
- Faulty port or sensor
- Low battery
- Insufficient signal strength
Recommended steps:
- Verify that the cable is intact and firmly connected.
- Test the unit.
- If the issue persists, the port or cable may be faulty—replace as needed.
B. Sensor Reporting “Open Circuit”
Troubleshooting steps:
- Check whether the cable is properly connected or damaged.
- Test the unit.
- If still flagged as Open Circuit, replace the cable.
C. Sensor Reporting “Short Circuit”
Troubleshooting steps:
- Confirm that both the cable and sensor are correctly connected.
- Test the unit.
- If unresolved, the UTM port may be damaged—replace the UTM.
D. Device Not Communicating
If the device does not transmit any data:
- Test the unit.
- Observe LED behavior:
- No LEDs or LEDs flash only for a few seconds → Low battery or hardware issue
- Resolution: Replace the UTM.
- LEDs flash for several minutes → Network connection issue
- Resolution: Install the device at a higher position to improve coverage.
- No LEDs or LEDs flash only for a few seconds → Low battery or hardware issue
3. Additional Notes
- Hardware problems are most commonly related to cables, battery health, or damaged ports.
- Installations in low-signal areas may require relocation of the device for optimal performance.
